The role of the Director of Engineering at Lex is to be a hands-on builder, coder and team leader. You’ll closely partner with the CPO & CEO to create the future of queer connection & lead engineering to build impactful product features. You will be responsible for technical architecture, delivery and execution, and add significant fire power helping bring our largest, most complex features to life.

The Role

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering with experience building consumer apps across the stack to join our team. As the leader of the engineering team you'll collaborate directly with the Chief Product Officer and lead the engineering team to understand, build, and test new product features from conception to roll-out. Every week you'll ship new experiences to hundreds of thousands of users and see the impact directly.

Who You Are

Long term vision, with a bias towards action. You’ll work closely with the CPO, CEO, and the engineering team to make high-level architecture designs that scale, with a bias towards shipping high quality code and product quickly.
You are excited by building. You’re ready to get your hands dirty writing code and shipping on a daily/weekly basis. You think quickly & collaboratively, and bring lots of creative ideas to consumer social apps.
You enjoy leading a small team towards building engaging, impactful consumer apps finding the best & fastest path towards delivering customer value. You like to to drive good design and architecture, know how to execute complex projects, and love mentoring and training other developers.
You’re an energetic, positive-thinker and comfortable adapting to change in a seed-stage startup environment. You push the team to meet company objectives and inspire them to think creatively.
You are a systems thinker with operational excellency: You are nimble in order to deliver value and resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways, and operationalize proccess and systems to drive long term effectiveness. Honest in time assessments and confidence intervals, and communicative when these change, with the ability to provide in-depth evaluation of technical complexities and present new solutions.
You’re passionate and up-to-date about with current business and technology trends, always curious to learn what new models and products are emerging and why they do / don’t work.

What You'll Do

You'll be leading the Lex Engineering team in designing, building, and ensuring the high quality of the Lex mobile app
You’ll be accountable for delivering features and implementing processes to ensure best practices across the engineering team.
You’ll be managing, hiring and retaining engineering talent in a highly competitive market, we are a 100% remote team.
You’ll identify problems and provide solutions to issues across the product and team, and come prepared with Plan B, C, D as needed.
You’ll navigate a rapidly changing market demands and incorporating feedback from users and stakeholders.

Your manager will be the CPO.
This will be a 100% remote role, based in the US. Must work in EST timezones.

What we value:

You have 5+ years as senior or Staff Engineer, acting as the tech lead for teams.
You have built React (with strong backend expertise preferable) products at scale of 1M+ MAU.
You are comfortable working across the stack, and you enjoy building features, as well as designing and scaling architecture.
You appreciate good design and you get excited to translate that into functional experiences that people use every day.
You are a product thinker who loves thinking about how technology can best be used to enhance peoples' lives.
You love what you do - you love using your technical skillset and knowledge to create well-crafted products that create meaningful value for people.
You are an excellent partner, collaborator and communicator across functions.

Bonus:

You have experience working on consumer technology products.
You have experienced in scaling products, from seed stage to beyond
NYC preferred but not required. Lex is based in NYC – the team works remotely in LA and Seattle as well.
