About the Role

As an Engineering Manager in the Technical Infrastructure organization, you will contribute and help deliver on the mission, vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution of the group. The Technical Infrastructure organization focuses on ensuring that the end-to-end engineering workflow at Compass is smooth, our foundational infrastructure that all teams rely on is stable and performant, and automation of organizational permissions related to engineering tools. Most of the services owned by the Technical Infrastructure group are considered Tier 1 services, so you will set the bar for high availability and operational excellence within product and engineering.

You will solicit input from key stakeholders across all of product and engineering, including engineers en-masse, who are the Technical Infrastructure group’s primary stakeholders. You will be responsible for creating an identity for the organization and setting top-level goals that connect to higher-level company goals.

You will play a valuable role in setting the north star, standards and operational excellence for the compass platform and engineering team.

At Compass, you will:

  • Build and manage an engineering team to guide the development of cloud infrastructure systems and features.
  • Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers and senior leadership to translate our vision into a tangible roadmap on a quarterly basis. Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and lead the iterative design and implementation process.
  • Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in diligent architectural and design decisions, fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Work closely with our talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineering talent who aligns with Compass’ culture and contribute to our platform.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure software development and at least 3+ years of which are management experience.
  • You must be able to motivate and inspire your team to develop and maintain high-performing and innovative software solutions
  • You must have experience leading a software engineering team and have a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • You must also have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as a high level of creativity and problem-solving ability

A proven track record of agile management and delivering successful products.A history of recruiting, growing, and retaining top talent in high-performance environments.Demonstrable examples of cross-team collaboration to affect organizational change.Experience with a hyper-growth company, scaling both organizations and technologies.Experience and knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and vendor negotiations/management.Experience with technologies such as: AWS, RDS, Elasticsearch, Elasticache, Redis, Kafka, Java, Python, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, Networking, and CI/CD.

Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $143,000-$216,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
