As the Senior Counsel, Workplace Investigations at Compass, you will work on exciting matters that require strategic thinking and proactive legal guidance. You will be a part of a highly-collaborative group of talented in-house legal professionals and the projects you work on challenge you to think creatively and constructively. Your contributions will be impactful, value driven, and you will play an instrumental role on the Compass Legal Team.
At Compass You Will:
- Manage and directly conduct workplace investigations
- Collaborate with human resources, legal colleagues, and business partners
- Champion the standards of integrity, objectivity, thoroughness, and of treating investigation participants with dignity and respect
- Advocate for consistency in investigatory processes, discipline, and resolution
- Identify, collect, analyze, and preserve documentary and physical evidence related to the matters being investigated
- Draft documents such as investigation reports and summaries, conclusion talking points, investigation update emails, response to government agency requests, and other investigation-related documents, as needed
- Serve as our liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including through representing the company in investigations, mediations, arbitrations, and potential litigation
- Partner with legal and human resources colleagues to develop and manage the workplace relations case management system and create timely and informative reporting
- Identify trends and develop proactive strategies to remediate risk, including through developing and delivering training programs and identifying workplace policy improvements
- Contribute to employment legal-related projects as necessary, including providing counseling and other day-to-day employment legal support

What We Look For:
- Strong academic credentials including a JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar (NY or CA bar a plus)
- Absolute minimum of 5 years of hands-on investigations experience, including extensive EEO/Compliance experience from a large or mid-sized law firm representing management or from the legal department of a large (1000+ employees) company
- Must have operative knowledge of federal/local laws governing US employment issues, familiarity with California, New York State and New York City helpful
- An operative knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and procedures
- Experience with e-discovery and forensic review of electronic databases and applications
- High level of discretion, objectivity, and consistency
- Keen judgment particularly when analyzing and resolving employment issues
- Diplomatic, assertive, and adaptable when working cross-functionally and with senior executives throughout the organization
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment, adjust readily to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change with composure
- Strong analytical/fact based decision-making skills combined with the ability to think innovatively. Examines root cause and provides recommendations to management to mitigate repeated issues
- A team player with low ego who can effectively work with other legal professionals and business partners
Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $136,300-$203,900 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
